Weekly Comics Roundup Issue #9

This Week’s Top Dog Comic

The Amazing Spider-Man #50 Preview

Spider-Man has had a rough year! And now Kindred is finally revealing himself, and his spooky bugs really leave a shiver down your spine. This is the fallout from #850, which spirals into another brand new small Spider-Man event that will go on for the rest of the year. Nick Spencer has been building to this moment for 2 years, so I know the payoff will be good.

Archangel 8 #1 (of 5) - Comics by comiXology

Unfortunately, I was not able to read my pull this week, but fret not! Imma hook you up with a little insider details about a great deal we are having at the store on some of our graphic novels. The new comic publisher AWA has sent us 3 different graphic novels for the cheap retail price of $9.99. AWA stories have been some of the highlights of my year and I hope you guys will be able to read some of our favorite titles. Hotell is a collection of one shot stories in a motel off the highway where devilish occurrences happen. Watch out, all of the stories connect together in some way, so keep a lookout. The Resistance is a six issue limited series about a global pandemic that wiped out a large chunk of the world population. But one day, the disease went catatonic and everyone infected got super powers. J. Michael Strazinsky creates this large world that delves into how the world has to adjust and grow from this rapid change. Year Zero, written by the writer of Wolverine, Ben Percy, is about a cast of different characters all across the world that shows how each one of them survives the start of the zombie apocalypse. And my personal favorite, Archangel 8, is about a renegade angel on a black ops mission from God to do all his little dirty work, like sending some evil men to hell a little earlier than expected. I have personally read all of these stories, so trust me when I say these titles are all worth the $10!

One of my favorite comic series of the year ended this week and I’m hoping more people can appreciate this 5-book run now that it’s over. As our global climate destabilizes, our society struggles to answer the many questions asked about the future of our planet and our species. The solarpunk landscape of No One’s Rose was a perfect place to examine the concepts of sustainability, eco-fascism and the purpose of revolutionary movements. Issue five brought a bittersweet ending that I’m looking forward to re-reading soon. Also, bombs made of plants. C’mon y’all, they’ve got bombs that are literally mushrooms. How sick is that?
