Tween Fiction Presentation | Gene Twaronite & Stephanie Jefferson | Discussion, Q&A and Signing

Peregrine Book Company Presents
The Family that Wasn'tThe Weight of the Crown SATURDAY, AUGUST 24

12 noon
Join Stephanie Jefferson and Gene Twaronite as they share short readings from their works and discuss the ideas and craft involved in creating their unique ‘Tween books. They will also be available to answer questions and to sign their books; copies will be available for sale.

Local authors Stephanie Jefferson and Gene Twaronite both write for middle grade (or ‘Tween) readers, but they couldn’t be more different in their books and approach to writing. Stephanie Jefferson, who has just released her second novel—Weight of the Crown—in the Princess Kandake series, writes tales of adventure based on lands in the ancient past; her writing is thus based on exhaustive historical research, which lends her novels a certain realism. Highlights for Children author Gene Twaronite, who has just published his short story collection Dragon Daily News: Stories of Imagination for Children of All Ages, builds his wacky and weird tales from scratch out of the detritus and figments of his brain; despite this, his tales are still totally believable.

Stephanie Jefferson
loves all forms of story—oral, written, cinematic, and any other form you can think of. She writes because of the way it makes her brain feel. Her greatest desire is to craft a story that the reader never wants to end. Her first ‘Tween novel was Princess Kandake. Warrior By Choice…Appointed to Rule, in which a 14-year-old girl in the ancient kingdom of Nubia learns she must be both queen and warrior to save her brother. Gene Twaronite
truly believes that, once you set them into motion, words have a life all their own—no telling where they might go. His Dragon Daily News stories are filled with odd encounters, chance meetings, what ifs, what nexts, and laugh out loud predicaments. For him, laughter is the highest praise. He is also the author of two other humorous books: the middle grade novel The Family That Wasn’t and the young adult novel My Vacation in Hell. His “Absurd Naturalist” essays appear every month in the local art and science magazine 5enses. Learn more about Gene on his website: | 219A North Cortez | Prescott, Arizona 86301 | 928.445.9000
