About the Artist
Josephine Gibbs-Archer was born in Saltburn, England on December 13, 1972. Josephine’s interest for Art originates and is inspired by the outdoors, holistic medicine, and environment. It was in high school that she completed her first black line etching with aquatint. After pulling her first print she was enamored by the graphic quality and intensity of line and texture the print could portray. Josephine finished high school and then she acquired her B.F.A. in Printmaking and Drawing. From 2000 to 2005 Josephine studied Art and Printmaking at the University of Oregon, graduating in 2005 with her Master’s Degree in Art and Printmaking. Josephine’s work is instilled with subtle layers of native plants, archaic archetypal symbols, and figures. She is very pro-active in environmental issues and holistic medicine. These interests can be seen throughout her work. Glimpses of plants that are known for their healing properties and images relating to animal life and the environment are common elements. She mixes mediums within printmaking to create layers and graphic representations of these themes. See more of the work of Josephine Archer »
